ASA team members go on to new jobs

Kuukuwa Manful and Innocent Batsani-Ncube are leaving SOAS to take up new roles.

Kuukuwa becomes an Assistant Professor at the Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Michigan.

Innocent becomes a Lecturer in African Politics at the School of Politics and International Relations at Queen Mary University of London.

ASA PI Julia Gallagher said: ‘Kuukuwa and Ib made stellar contributions to the ASA project. Between them, they published articles and book chapters, won grants, convened courses, organised workshops, directed films and edited books and exhibitions. They are both incredibly talented academics and we are delighted to see them taking the next steps in their careers.’

Kuukuwa and Innocent joined the ASA project in 2018 as PhD students. In spite of the major disruptions caused by the COVID pandemic, both completed successfully in 2022.

Kuukuwa’s thesis is entitled: The Architecture of Education: Nation-Building, Social Class, and Modernity in Ghana

Innocent’s thesis is entitled: Made by China: the politics and implications of Chinese government funded & constructed Parliament buildings in Lesotho, Malawi and Zimbabwe

Both are currently working on book forms of their theses. You can find links to their existing publications here.
