The Building Africa Exhibition moves to South Africa this month, with a new show in Johannesburg from 31 July until 11 August.
The show is called Building Africa: The State of Things! and it will be staged at the Keyes Art Mile, Rosebank from 31 July-11 August and at the Decorex Joburg Design Week, Sandton Convention Centre, 3-6 August.
The exhibition explores how notions of South African statehood and identity are projected through two iconic buildings: the Union Buildings and the Constitutional Court, engaging in particular with public experiences and ideas about them.
It has been designed by Matri-Archi(techture), a collective based between South Africa and Switzerland, who have drawn on and further interpreted research done by SOAS’s ASA team.
The exhibition is free and open to all. No need to book
As well as the daily exhibition, there are three special public events which you can register for:
Preview tour with artists, Keyes Art Mile, 11am-2pm, 31 July
Panel discussion with artists, Decorex Joburg Design Week, Sandton Convention Centre, 2pm, 3 August
First Thursday opening talk and vernissage, Keyes Art Mile, 7pm, 3 August.
