La Pyramide, Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire

1968

La Pyramide is a dramatic modernist statement and one of the most distinctive features of Abidjan’s Plateau district.

It was designed by Rinaldo Olivieri and built in 1968. The architect intended the building to represent a locally sympathetic modernism, designed to fit the climate and to reflect the values and aesthetics of local markets.

It has never been fully used as intended, as a commercial hub, and has fallen into disrepair.
